Jadeon Rathgeber, known as Medicine Bear (Maskihkiy Muskwa), is a First Nations artist, storyteller, and grassroots advocate born and raised in a large northern Manitoba First Nations community. A proud descendant ofĀ WĆ¢pusk-OkimĆ¢wĀ (the White Bear Chief)Ā andĀ Legendary Birch Bark Biting Artist HalfmoonĀ Woman.
Jadeon isĀ a band member ofĀ Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation. Jadeonās journey has been one of profound transformation ā from surviving a life marked by gangs and addiction to reclaiming his cultural roots through art, ceremony, and advocacy. His work uplifts authentic Indigenous traditions, reflects a matriarchal worldview, and calls attention to the urgent environmental and social justice issues facing Turtle Island.
The flower represents renewal and a connection to Mother Earth.Ā Jadeon does the flower design to honor Mother Earth. This particular design is in honor of his late grandmother Lady Of The Thunderbirds who did flower designs in her beadwork patterns.
